Blockbuster shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops has been named as UK gamers' favourite title of 2010 in a new online poll.

MSN Games conducted a survey of more than 240,000 gaming enthusiasts and found that Activision and Treyarch's multiplatform shooter was rated as game of the year by 32 per cent of respondents.

The game beat off competition from acclaimed titles such as Red Dead Redemption, which came second with 11 per cent of the vote, as well as smash-hit football game FIFA 11.

Steven Wilson-Beales, MSN Games' content editor, said there is "no doubt" that Black Ops was the year's biggest game after its record-breaking launch.

Activision figures show that 5.6 million copies of the title were snapped up in the UK and US on its first day of release alone.

Mr Wilson-Beales said: "The fact our readers have voted it their game of the year both reflects the profile of the game and shows they were hugely excited by the finished product."
