Gamers who pick up the eagerly-awaited detective game LA Noire when it launches next year will be able to experience some cutting-edge graphics technology.

Publisher Rockstar has revealed details of the all-new MotionScan animation system that will power the forthcoming Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title, creating some of the most realistic in-game characters ever.

The performance capture technology uses 32 high-definition cameras to completely surround actors' faces and record their performance in 3D at 30 frames per second, allowing every subtle detail to be recreated exactly within the game.

This will play a key role in the title's gameplay, as players will be challenged to interrogate suspects and determine whether they can be trusted by examining their mannerisms.

LA Noire is out in spring 2011 and stars Mad Men actor Aaron Staton in the lead role of Cole Phelps, an up-and-coming detective in 1940s LA.

Gamers have been looking forward to the title for some time, as it has been in development for more than half a decade.
